Rules are simple. As stated above follow remind_me_about. Wait for remind_me_about to follow you back. When you want to add a reminder, simply send a Direct Message in any of the following formats.

Bob’s birthday Tomorrow

or

Tom’s Birthday on 23/04/2009

The date format should be dd/mm/yyyy. remind_me_about notifies you if you enter a valid date format.

I will upload the source code to codeplex soon.  If you find a bug please send me an email to shobankr[at]gmail.com

Microsoft Office 2010 – First look

July 16th, 2009

Microsoft Office 2010 is available for private technical preview. I thought I will not post about Microsoft Office 2010 in codegeeks. Reason? This is a programming blog ;-) . I thought I will just tweet about the experience but I am tempted to post the screen shots here.

1I upgraded from office 2007 to office 2010 and the upgrade took just few minutes. The first thing I noticed was the speed at which word, excel and outlook started.

Word started in just 2-3 seconds. The ribbon you see in office 2007 has gone through some changes and one of the new attraction is the new office button

2Clicking this button opens up a new window with options to save, open, print, share the document etc.

word20101

I don’t use word 2007 much because I spend most of the time at office and we still use office Xp(!) . Yes you read it right we use office xp but I feel it was a good move not to switch to office 2007. Office 2010 looks more promising than office 2007.

Outlook 2010 is also better and faster than outlook 2007. It took few minutes to open the first time I started outlook. One thing to note is that there is no going back to office 2007 once you start using 2010. So back up your mails (pst files) before upgrading to outlook 2010.

Finally there is a send smile and send frown icon to send feedback.

Overall Microsoft office 2010 looks promising like Windows 7.

TweetMyPC – Good to see mixed reactions

July 12th, 2009

Today I read this blog post about TweetMyPC where Mike talks about the Evil side of TweetMyPC. It is good to see people taking security seriously.

If you have read my previous posts about TweetMyPC or the product home page you will notice that i have clearly mentioned TweetMyPC should not be used if you are worried about security. Moreover it was a hobby project of mine and that is the reason why the sourcode is available for free and can be used for educational purposes.

TweetMyPC version 2 has more features which when wrongly used can lead to a disaster and this is reason why version 1 is still available for download which does nothig more than shutdown/restart/log off.
